Green Schools
|
|
St. Joseph's is a Green School. Two years ago our school St. Joseph 's received a green flag. The green flag means that we are a clean school. To get the green flag we had to sweep the yards, recycle Paper and cardboard and compost. We also recycled batteries, phones for the Jack and Jill Foundation and stamps. We recycled 377 batteries in the first term. Each battery pollutes 1 cubic metre of land so this means we saved 377 cubic metres of land. We collect fruit n' vegetables and we put them in a special bin. Then all the fruit n' vegetables brake down and form a stinky substance called compost. We then use the compost for the plants around our school. By doing this we prevent the fruit n' vegetables from going into landfill and we also don't need to buy fertilizer. In 2008 we hope to receive our second green flag. Report by Damian Anslik and Aaron Soady.
