St Joseph’s School Band Shine Bright at Córfhéile na Scoileanna

Mar 12th, 2026

Our St Joseph’s School Band recently took part in Córfhéile na Scoileanna, the largest non-competitive music festival for primary school children in Ireland. The event took place this March in the National Basketball Arena and brought together schools from across the region for a wonderful celebration of music.

The band is led by Ms McCabe and features a variety of instruments including tin whistle, accordion, glockenspiel, percussion and piano. All boys from 5th and 6th class take part in the band from September to June, with 4th class pupils joining after Halloween each year.

In preparation for Córfhéile, our musicians spent months practising and developing their performance. The progress they made over this time was fantastic to see and hear, and all their hard work, practice and dedication truly paid off.

The concert was a great opportunity for families, friends and neighbouring schools, including Scoil Mhuire and Scoil Áine, to come together and enjoy a wonderful evening of music.

It took three double-decker buses to bring our boys and their instruments to the venue, but it only took one performance to blow the audience away. On the day, the band performed a lively marches set which included Star of the County Down, Who Fears to Speak of ’98, The Foggy Dew and Step Together. This was followed by a beautiful slow set of The Sound of Silence, accompanied by Mr Hughes on guitar. The boys also performed their very own Joey’s twist on the popular song Killeagh by Kingfishr, before finishing the performance with our national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann. The boys of St Joseph’s showcased incredible talent, discipline and passion on the stage.

A sincere thank you to all the teachers and SNAs who helped make this experience possible, as well as to the parents and wider school community who came along to support the band.

It was truly a day to remember for the Joey’s community, and we are extremely proud of the boys and their fantastic achievement.
