Last week, our school community took a collective breath and shifted its focus inward for our annual Wellbeing Week. In the midst of a busy academic term, these five days provided a vital opportunity for students and staff alike to prioritise mental health, physical vitality, and meaningful connection. The atmosphere in a school was noticeably different—lighter, more intentional, and filled with a sense of shared support.
We began our journey each morning with Soft Starts, replacing the usual rush with a calm, steady transition into learning. This set the tone for a suite of daily practices designed to regulate the nervous system. Mindfulness and Meditation sessions offered students tools to manage stress, while our Check-in Circles created a safe, brave space for honest conversation. By acknowledging how we were truly feeling, we strengthened the bonds that make our school a community.
Physical health was equally championed. Our Fruit Breaks provided a colorful energy boost, ensuring everyone was fueled for the day. Recognising that movement is medicine, we also took part in a collective Wellbeing Walk and transitioned many of our traditional subjects into Outdoor Lessons. There is something uniquely refreshing about learning in the open air, and this was further enhanced by our excursions to Corkagh Park. These trips allowed us to appreciate the local natural beauty, providing a perfect setting for reflection and relaxation away from the ringing of school bells.
Of course, wellbeing is also about joy and play. The week reached a thrilling crescendo with the highly anticipated Students vs. Teachers Tug of War. The cheers could be heard from across the grounds as teams dug deep and gave it their all. While the competitive spirit was high, the laughter and camaraderie were the true highlights of the event. Every boy enjoyed an ice-cream as a celebration of a truly brilliant week.
As we return to our regular routines, we hope the lessons of Wellbeing Week—connection, balance, and self-care—remain at the heart of our school life. Thank you to everyone who participated with such an open mind and positive spirit!
